As I mention above, Vietnam is small but long country, the distance between Hanoi and HCM City is almost two thousand kilometers. It would take over 33 hours driving along this country. So the smart choice is taking flight to 3 major cities of Vietnam: Hanoi, Da Nang and HCM City then using the private car to travel to your favorite destinations.
I suggest the most popular routes in North, Central & South Vietnam. The distance and driving time between them. The best of using private car is you have max privacy and flexibility. You could stop along the way for photo ops and meet up local people at the home or their work.
